About Our Practice

Principle Dentist

Dr. Sukhvinder Atthi qualified from University of Birmingham 1998, completed vocational training and continued his professional training in various NHS/Private practices and hospital trusts. He is a member of the Faculty of General Dental Practitioners (FGDP) and a board member of the West Midlands Division.. After obtaining professional qualifications in 2004 became a member of the Royal College of Surgeons (MFDS RCS). Dr. Atthi has developed the practice to include treatment that involves braces (orthodontics), minor oral surgery & Sedation. Dr. Atthi has completed the Diploma in Conscious Sedation from Newcastle University and currently studying a MSc in Orthodontics at Warwick University, a PGCERT in Leadership and Management at Keele University.

He is member of SAAD to which influences how safe and with care; sedation is performed at the practice by the whole team.

Being a lecturer at Birmingham Dental Hospital enables his teaching skills to be enhanced and students learn a great deal of experience that Dr. Atthi has learned since qualifying.

Dr. Atthi has given various lecturers on different dental related topics to dentists locally and nationally. Currently Dr. Atthi is working on establishing a Sedation Mentor Group for the West Midlands so keep to date with our blog or visit our Facebook Page and add us.

Our Practice

We have fully qualified experienced associates who work alongside the principle dentist Dr. Sukhvinder Atthi, who also is a trainer for recently qualified dentists and dental nurses. We pride ourselves in being selected to become one of the 70 Dental Practices in England approved to pilot different ways of improving the quality of dental services, improving oral health. Our fully trained experienced and friendly staff work together as a team, to provide you with a high standard of care and service throughout the visit. We have an extensive range of new facilities including a purpose built surgery downstairs, with wheelchair access and a disabled toilet. This helps us treat our elderly and disabled patients more comfortably.


Registering With The Practice

If you would like to register with our practice you can either telephone, email, fill in the form below or come in person to book an appointment. Please remember to inform us of any change of address, telephone no. or any medication you are taking at each appointment. Some of our dentist at this practice are in attendance on a part time basis. You can choose which dentist you would prefer to see alongside your regular dentist. Please note this depends upon their appointment availability. We run a Patient Participation Group meeting approximately 3x per year. If would would be interested in joining this group then please contact the practice manager for more information.

Data Protection

We are registered with the data protection registration agency to comply with legal requirements. All Information we have on patients is confidential to maintain your privacy. you have a right to access the information we have on your dental records. Your dental records will remain confidential and secure. We will try to contact you before releasing your records to another organisation. However, from time to time, we may need to release these to NHS England as part of our on-going clinical review process.


NHS/Private Patients

At Hillbrook Dental Health Centre we accept private paints and patients on benefits. Listed below are the only categories of benefits that qualify for free NHS dental treatment. Please bring proof of entitlement when claiming help with the cost of NHS treatment.

  • Valid NHS tax credit (named persons only)
  • Pension Credit Guaranteed Credit
  • Income-based Jobseekers Allowance or income-related Employment and Support allowance
  • HC2 or HC3 NHS Certificate (Named persons only)
  • Jobseeker's Allowance

People who fall into the following categories also qualify for free NHS treatment

  • Aged under 18
  • Aged 18 and in full time education
  • Pregnant
  • Mother with a child under 1 year

Your dentist will advise you of the cost of any treatment that you may have to pay for.


Cancelling Your Appointment

If you are not able to keep your appointment please let the practice know as soon as possible - at least 24 hours before - so that we can offer it to another patient on our waiting list. Failure to attend 3 appointments in a 12 month period will result in us not being able to complete your treatment or offer NHS care in the future.


Out Of Hours Service

We offer a number of emergency appointments during the practice opening hours for patients who need urgent treatment. If you need urgent treatment outside of the opening hours you can contact NHS by dialling 111 where your condition will be assessed and advice given.


Patient Conduct

All patients are expected to treat the staff with respect. We operate a zero tolerance policy within the practice. Action will be taken against patients who are violent or abusive to staff.


Patient Advice & Liaison Service (PALS)

PALS provide on the spot help for patients. They are no part of the complaints procedure, but PALS may be able to resolve your concerns informally and sort things our for you quickly. Contact PALS at: Tel: 0121 255 0707, or via the website.


Complaints Procedure

All complaints should be firstly be addressed to the practice manager by post or by email. The complaint will be dealt with promptly and you will be kept up to date with the progress. Alternatively you can complain, for NHS treatment, directly to NHS England, PO BOX 16738, Redditch, B97 9PT; Phone: 0300 311 2233, or for private treatment, Dental Complaints Service, Stephenson House, 2 Cherry Orchard Road, Croydon CR0 6BA Phone: 020 8253 0800.
